FRIENDS OF LYDIATE ABBEY
This is a short News Letter to let you all know that we are still meeting regularly with Lydiate Parish Council and the Archdiocese.
The Archdiocese have taken more interest of late, applying, all be it unsuccessfully, for grants to carry out major works that would have enabled us to remove the fencing currently around the chapel. This would have allowed public access to St Catherine’s again.
Further efforts are to be made and in the meantime Friends of Lydiate Abbey (FOLA) will continue to raise funds to enable us to carry out minor improvements, and help if fund matching is required.
We had some sad news when our treasurer and stalwart supporter Liz Helliwell died. Liz was a member and treasurer of the Maghull and Lydiate Local History Society before it ceased during lockdown, Liz then continued to be our treasurer at FOLA.
Following the success of the summer fund raising at the Scotch Piper we are hoping to have a fund raising event at the Scotch Piper again on Sunday 6TH December at 3.00pm. This will be Christmas Carols followed by Christmas Songs with ‘Scotch on The Rocks’. So please note your diaries, we will give more details nearer the date.
If anyone wishes to be more involved, please contact me on lydiateabbey1486@gmail.com
